Airline food has never had a good reputation, but one upside of the shift from free on-board fare to paid meals? Healthier choices.
DietDetective.com just released their annual rankings of the healthfulness of airline food and while some airlines still have much to be desired in the food department, they are wising up.
“Some airlines are waking up,” said Charles Stuart Platkin, the founder of DietDetective.com. “[Food sales are now] a source of income, and if they serve healthier foods, people are appreciative of it.”
So which airlines topped Platkin’s list of best airline food?
1. Continental Airlines
2. American Airlines
3. JetBlue
All in all, even though paying for food when we fly may seem like yet another way the airlines are cutting back, there is a silver lining, says Platkin. “I think onboard sales are better for passengers because the (free) food wasn’t tasty, was high in fat and had little nutritional value.”
