Gloss Buzz: What We’re Listening to Right Now

RadicalSomething1 300x300 Gloss Buzz: What Were Listening to Right NowLIONESS: Hidden Treasures
By Amy Winehouse
A new album of recordings by the late soul singer Amy Winehouse, this album contain 12 songs  – previously unreleased tracks, alternative versions of existing hits and brand new songs  – recorded by the beehive-wearing singer who died at her London home on July 23. The label said Winehouse’s longtime musical partners Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi had spent time since her death listening to recordings of the singer, who many said never sang or played a song the same way twice.

We are Nothing
By Radical Something

We recently got introduced to Radical Something, and it was instant attraction: This two-piece collaboration of rapper Loggy and singer Josh Cocktail creates an intoxicating summertime blend reminding us of Shwayze and Cisco Adler. An acoustic, carefree vibe permeates this album – one that you’ll find you come back to time and again.

Mylo Xyloto
By Coldplay

Just as the album art was inspired by the work of New York graffiti artists of the 1970’s, “Mylo Xyloto” takes its cue from the sense of freedom those artists embodied. Songs like the frenetic “Hurts Like Heaven” and “Major Minus” contrast sharply with the delicate “Us Against The World,” and the shimmering singles “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” and “Paradise.” The track “Princess of China” features vocals by Rihanna. Markus Dravs, Daniel Green and Rik Simpson produced “Mylo Xyloto”, with enoxification and additional composition by Brian Eno. “Like 2008′s horizon-broadening ‘Viva La Vida,’ ‘Mylo Xyloto’ draws from an expansive palette,” said SPIN while ROLLING STONE praised it as Coldplay’s “most ambitious yet…a bear-hug record for a bear-market world.” We love it – you’ll be surprised how many tracks on this album stay in your head hours after you give your last listen.

Long Live the King EP
By The Decemberists

The Decemberists released this EP of b-sides as a companion piece to their LP “The King Is Dead.” The 6-song EP features outtakes from “The King Is Dead” recording sessions at Pendarvis Farm including “E. Watson” (with backing vocals from Laura Veirs and Annalisa Tornfelt), the horn-drenched “Sonnet,” and a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Row Jimmy”, as well as the home demo “I 4 U & U 4 Me.” Can you own one without the other? Absolutely – but if you are like us, you won’t want to.

Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Begins: Chaz Bono Can Dance!

chaz bono dwts 300x282 Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Begins: Chaz Bono Can Dance!ABC kicked of their 13th season of Dancing with the Stars tonight and the controversy-laden hit series opened with a bang! After enduring rounds of punches for casting transgender celebrity Chaz Bono as a contestant, DWTS had the last laugh when Bono and pro partner Lacey Schwimmer cha cha’d to “Dancing In the Street” to great compliments from the judges and a standing ovation from the in-studio audience.

Chaz proved that his song-and-dance roots provided well for him — with the judges praising his performance. “You can dance!” Carrie Ann Inaba exclaimed after the performance. Even stickler Len Goodman complimented the activist and documentary star commending him for his attitude and heart.

All in all, Bono and Schwimmer landed in the middle of the pack as far as scoring with 17 out of 30 points.

Proud mama Cher tweeted her excitement sharing:

“WOW ! HOW GREAT WAS MY SON,” Cher wrote. “‘THE GREATEST,THING GREATEST THING,GREATESTTHING NO MATTER WHAT !WHAT! WHAT!’ HES A WINNER ! I Was So Nervous.”

Here’s to hoping that the public will vote on merit and put aside controversy. We want to see more from Chaz!

Avon Voices: 10 Finalists Announced

avon 289x300 Avon Voices: 10 Finalists AnnouncedAs you know, for the past few months, I’ve been excitedly following the progression of the Avon Voices competition – it’s just so exciting to see “real people” get amazing opportunities!

Just last week, Avon announced the name of 10 finalists from nine countries who will be advancing to the final round of Avon Voices, which is the company’s first-ever global online singing talent search. The 10 Finalists (in alphabetical order by last name) are Pauline Alencar from Brazil, Evelina Anusauskaite from Lithuania, Cissy Crutcher and Jaclyn Dustin from the Unites States, Selena Gittens from Canada, Joy Loria from the Philippines, Roslynn Mahe from the United Kingdom, Rapeeporn Pratum-Anon from Thailand, Claudia Santos Morandi from Venezuela and Natalia Terekhova from Russia.

These 10 talented women started their Avon Voices journey in December 2010 by simply submitting a 30-second performance video. Since that time, the Finalists have advanced through three rounds of voting, with 2.4 million votes cast from around the world. As part of this journey, they have travelled on two unforgettable trips on behalf of Avon Voices, the most recent in July when they ventured to Hollywood, California to record their final performance videos.

Ultimately, two winners, one an Avon Representative, will be announced in November when the Finalists travel to New York City for the Avon Voices Finale and the Avon Foundation for Women Gala — At the Gala, the Avon Voices winners will be announced, and will receive an opportunity to record a professionally produced album. The finalists will be selected by a combination of online public voting and a renowned judging panel of music industry leaders from around the world, including, Fergie, six-time Grammy award winner, Diane Warren, legendary songwriter and Natasha Bedingfield, Grammy nominated singer and songwriter.
I can’t wait to see what happens next, and report on it to all of you! (I wish I had an actual voice and could enter. I don’t, so I will just live vicariously!)
