Did you watch Ellen DeGeneres first night on American Idol? What did you think? How do you judge the new American Idol judge?
I think Ellen is nicer than Simon but not as sappy as Paula. DeGeneres is straight-up, funny and in some cases, Ellen can be brutally honest. But I like Ellen’s no-nonsense style.
What about the alleged tension between Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres? Ellen told PEOPLE magazine:
Everyone’s making such a big deal about the tension. You know, there’s been a lot of fun on that panel. Kara [DioGuardi]’s been great, and Randy [Jackson]’s been great. And I think it was either Wednesday or Tuesday, Simon was great.
I think he’s a funny guy and I think he’s a smart guy. I like Simon. He’s going to be a challenge. He’s Simon, and I’m me. We are completely different people. We’ll see how it goes.
My favorites from tonight’s Idol:
Andrew Garcia. Andrew’s played Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up.” Garcia made this song sound better than the original!
Janell Wheeler. Amazing performance. This girl has star written all over her!
Mary Powers is a rocker chick who wants to change her family life by becoming the next American Idol.

Ellen Sucks she will ruin Idol
complete rubbish. The show can never be d same. aint gonna watch it, neither are my friends. WE WANT PAULA
Ellen is hilarious and witty. Paula always spoke in riddles, and was kind of a dingbat. This show sucks because of last year’s voting scandal, but there is some good talent this year, especially Ellen. Some of you may have forgotten how many Emmy’s her show has won? And how many people’s choice awards? Perfect judge for a voting show like this.
To those who say she “sucks and will ruin the show”, I wonder if you held the same animosity toward Adam Lambert for certain reasons.
Ellen is a great stand-up comedienne, has an awesome talk show, is a great actress, she is very encouraging to the Idol hopefuls, and is very honest, and funny while delivering bad news.
That, and she has a beautiful wife.
Her presence won’t ruin the show, but it will offer something in Paula’s absence: SUBSTANCE.
