‘Precious,’ ‘Tyler Perry’s House of Payne’ Lead NAACP Image Awards
“Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” swept the NAACP Image Awards tonight with six wins for the film at the 41st annual event that honors diversity in the arts. The film’s Gabourey Sidibe won the best actress statue while Mo’Nique was honored with the best supporting actress prize. Director Lee Daniels and screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher also won awards for the Oscar-nominated film, and the film also took home the big prizes of the evening: outstanding motion picture and outstanding independent motion picture. (By the way, presenter and “Precious” co-star Lenny Kravitz looked H-O-T tonight, but we digress).
“Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” won for outstanding comedy series and actors Cassi Davis, Lance Gross and Keshia Knight Pulliam also took home statues for the TBS hit.
