Barbara Walters is was quitting her Oscars television special after 29 years. Walter’s Oscar show before the March 7 Academy Awards has become a tradition for audiences for almost three decades and she says that’s enough!
This Sunday’s night, Walters will be back with “The Barbara Walters Special,” featuring Oscar nominees Sandra Bullock and Mo’Nique, as well as a roundup of the 93 interviews she conducted for the program over the years. The Oscar night interviews began in 1981 but Walters says it has become harder to be original:
It’s not movie stars that are celebrities any more. You are a celebrity overnight, you are a celebrity for doing nothing, you are a celebrity for shopping. People don’t have much to talk about, classic stars like Bette Davis are rare today.
