Independent Spirit Awards 2010: ‘Precious’ Wins Big, Hollywood Celebrates Indie Film

moniqueifc 199x300 Independent Spirit Awards 2010: Precious Wins Big, Hollywood Celebrates Indie FilmThe 25th Independent Spirit Awards were held tonight in Los Angeles — an annual affair held on the eve…or close to…the Oscars. Celebrating independent films — i.e. those that don’t have a major studio backing them — stars including Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jodie Foster, Jeff Bridges, Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey and Rosario Dawson stepped out to join the festivities, led by host Eddie Izzard.

Some of the winners from tonight’s event included:

- Precious swept the awards show winning five statues including “Best Feature of the Year,” “Best Director,” ”

- Jeff Bridges won Best Male lead while Gabourey Sidibe won Best Female Lead.

- Mo’Nique won the supporting actress prize for her role in “Precious” and praised her co-star, Gabourey Sidibe: “Gabby, you are truly a special gift to the universe, baby. For people to get to know you and be in your presence, they are all honored.”

- Woody Harrelson for his supporting role in “The Messenger”

- “An Education” won for Best Foreign Film
