Where the Wild Things Are, Spike Jonze Honors Book with Movie
Posted on October 16, 2009 by Lolita Carrico
Where the Wild Things Are has everyone talking this weekend! The film is delightful, according to many critics. Joe Morgenstern of the Wall Street Journal says Spike Jones honored Maurice Sendak’s children’s classic:
Where the Wild Things Are honors the book in every imaginable way, and in ways no one could have imagined until Spike Jonze and his collaborators came along. Maurice Sendak’s beloved classic of children’s literature, a tale told in mysteriously droll illustrations and 338 words, has grown into a movie that feels vast in scope, yet remarkably intimate and tender.
I am dragging my teen and my preteen daughters to this movie on Sunday because I love the book so much. I’m so happy to know that Spike Jones has taken such care with Maurice Sendak’s book, because I believe it is magical.
