Dana Delany stars in ABC’s medical crime drama Body of Proof as a strong and determined woman juggling a stressful career, motherhood and more. Off the small screen, Delany is honoring women everywhere with Caltrate’s “Women Move the World” campaign which celebrates the strength and accomplishments of women and how they move the world each day.
I had a chance to chat with Dana about how she finds balance, what moves her and what we can expect from the new season of Body of Proof which premieres on September 20th.
Lolita Carrico: As a busy woman with a hectic career, how do you juggle it all – your work, your causes, friends and more? What’s your secret to finding the right balance?
Dana Delany: For me, I try to take things one at a time. I remind myself “just one thing at a time” and that seems to take the pressure off. And I know that there is always tomorrow. What doesn’t get done today I can accomplish tomorrow. Also, I think it is important to be empowered to say “no” when needed.
That said I do find time for the causes and initiatives I’m passionate about like Women Move the World. I’m thrilled to have partnered with Caltrate on Women Move the World. This initiative is about celebrating women and all the things they do each day to move the world. As part of the initiative women can go online to the Caltrate Facebook page and learn more about women who move my world like my sister Corey, read other moving stories and submit their own story for a chance to be featured in an upcoming Caltrate Women Move the World advertisement.
Finally, even when you are juggling it all it is important to find time for fun!
LC: What do you do to keep your stress level manageable?
DD: I love yoga and find it benefits me both physically and mentally. Whether yoga, walking on the treadmill or lifting free weights, which is really good for keeping my bones strong, I try to exercise every day. I exercise first thing in the morning and find it sets me up for the rest of the day. If I can get an episode of Glee in during my walk on the treadmill, all the better. Staying active so I can keep moving through life is a high priority for me. That’s why I’ve teamed up with Caltrate on Women Move the World. We want to celebrate the movements and accomplishments of everyday women and encourage them to stay strong and keep moving the world.
LC: What gadget can’t you live without?
DD: My iPad because I use it to stay in touch with friends, tweet with my fans and do crossword puzzles which keep my mind active and relaxed.
LC: Name one of your favorite beauty product must-haves?
DD: This vanilla plant powered lip balm. It’s a must have for me.
LC: In Body of Proof, you portray a smart, strong and driven woman. Do you share similar traits to your character, Megan Hunt?
DD: I’m not as well educated as she is, but I’m definitely as curious as she is. Now that I’ve been playing the role I find I’ve become a little more direct, sometimes too direct.
LC: What can we expect from the new season of Body of Proof?
DD: You can expect two new guest stars, Crystal Bowersox and Rick Fox. Also, Megan gets a love interest and of course all around good mysteries.
LC: As part of the campaign with Caltrate, you’re asking women across the country to share what moves them. What moves you?
DD: Well I like the stories about women who nobody would necessarily hear about. I’m talking about real women that we see every day on the street that you don’t really know what their personal story is and I just thought of my sister immediately. Because I’ve know her my whole life and I think she’s extraordinary and she has had something happen to her recently that has happened to a lot of women where she had been married for 30 years, with the same man since she was 19, and he unexpectedly walked out of their marriage. And she was in shock. And I just saw her reeling it, and then pick herself up, turn it around, and she is an amazing person. I don’t know that I could have done it like that. It’s stories like these that move me.”
