apolo1 Daily Buzz: Apolo Anton Ohno Disqualified, Precious Wins, David Paterson Drops Out?Apolo Anton Ohno lost his chance to compete for an eighth Olympic medal.  Ohno was disqualified in the final of the 500 m short track speedskate. Canadian Charles Hamelin won the gold, with South Korean Si-Bak Sung taking home the silver, and Francois-Louis Tremblay taking the bronze medal.

The 41st NAACP Image Awards honored the gut-wrenching tales of an abused teen who finds hope. Stars Mo’Nique and Gabourey Sidibe, screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher and director Lee Daniels also won.

New York Gov. David Paterson dropped is bid to run for office on Friday. A scandal over his handling of a domestic abuse case is one of ther reasons I can’t down here.

According to PEOPLE, gymnast Nastia Liukin and figure skater Evan Lysacek have been dating since since last summer, but Evan told Entertainment Tonight that he was single last week. Either way, seen together in this photo to the left, they’d make an adorable couple!

Do you put out press releases when you split up? No? Well, apparently Ryan Phillipe and Abbie Cornish are sparring about who broke up with who via their PR reps, who have issued dueling press releases. As we reported this morning, the couple recently broke up but who dumped who is up for debate. On Sunday, Abbie’s publicist told People Magazine that Abbie ditched a cheating Ryan, saying:

“Abbie ended the relationship with Ryan and she moved out of their home….”

Then today, Ryan’s flack put out a statement saying:

“Ryan ended the relationship with Abbie recently while she was in Australia and asked her to remove her things from his residence, which she did this weekend.”

Our question: Does anyone really care?

Jay Leno is heading back to “The Tonight Show” on March 1st with an impressive line-up to mark his return to his previous roots. On debut day, Leno will host Olympian Lindsey Vonn, Jamie Foxx and Brad Paisley and later in the week will feature Sarah Palin, Shaun White, the cast of “Jersey Shore”, Simon Cowell and Kristen Stewart.

Partying after receiving his medal, photos of Lago in his Team USA gear surfaced on TMZ. The photos show a woman kissing and biting the bronze medal…below the waist.

After the leaked photos spread on the web, Lago apologized to the Olympic Committee as well as to the US Ski and Snowboard Association and made his exit.

“Scotty Lago is a great athlete, but with that comes a responsibility of proper conduct, and his involvement in this situation is not acceptable,” Ski and Snowboard Association President and CEO Bill Marolt said in statement. “Scotty realizes his conduct was inappropriate. He has formally apologized and also made a decision to leave Vancouver today.”

sven kramer Sven Kramer to Reporter Are You Stupid?Sven Kramer, Dutch speedskater won a gold medal on the first full day of the Vancouver Olympics.  But the gold medalist wasn’t happy when a reporter asked him to say his name and what he had just won. Sven replied:

Are you stupid? Hell no I’m not going to do that.

Huffington Post reports that Kramer explained his comment in a Dutch interview:

Come on, this is ridiculous. You’ve just become Olympic gold medal winner. She was there when it happened and then you have to sum up your whole biography, etc. She’s crazy.

It means everything to me … It’s awesome,” she said.

American Idol contestant Chris Golightly was disqualified after making the Top 24 last night. Without explanation, FOX issued a statement saying “It has been determined that Chris Golightly is ineligible to continue in the competition. ‘American Idol’ contestant Tim Urban has replaced Golightly as part of the Top 24.”

After settling the lawsuit that took “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ off the air last year, it looks like Kate Gosselin and her brood will back on TLC…minus Jon. A source told MSNBC that while “the whole Gosselin family is under contract,” a show focused on Kate is in the works but that Jon is not part of any programming plans.

luger killed Tragedy at Winter Olympics As Luger Dies In CrashNodar Kumaritashvili, a Georgian luge competitor, was killed in a horrible crash during training today!

Kumaritashvili’s sled veered off of the Olympic track at the Whistler Sliding Centre and slammed into a steel pole at 90mph. There have been concerns about the safety of the track, before today.  Several other athletes having been involved in crashes on the course, which is also used for skeleton and bobsleigh.

Nodar Kumaritashvili was ranked 44th in the world standings and he was 21-years-old.

2010 Winter Olympics Schedule, ‘We Are the World’ Debut Tonight

Qualifying rounds for ski jumping and alpine skiing get under way today but the day’s main attraction is the opening ceremony.  Coverage begins on NBC at 7:30 p.m. ET. The remake of “We Are the World” is set to make its debut at some point during NBC’s coverage of the opening ceremony.

Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones have headed up We Are the World as a benefit for the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti, “We Are the World — 25 for Haiti” features several artists such as Janet Jackson, Jordin Sparks, Kanye West and others.

The first full day of athletic competition begins Saturday, with events including alpine skiing (men’s downhill at 11:45 a.m. PT), speed skating (men’s 5,000-meter at noon PT), biathlon (women’s 7.50-kilometer sprint at 1 p.m. PT) and freestyle skiing (women’s moguls at 4:30 p.m. PT and 7:30 p.m. PT).
