Fair food is known for it’s greasy, unhealthy goodness — from fried candy bars to chocolate-dipped fried bacon to battered ‘n fried pie — and it seems this year’s fairs are pushing the envelope by creating the fattiest fare possible.
Paula Deen’s Lady’s Brunch Burger: I have NO IDEA why she named this the Lady’s Brunch Burger, but the Food Network’s Paula Deen created this calorie-laden, fatty treat that’s the toast of this year’s fairs. Sounds gross to me, but here’s what it packs: 2 Krispie Kreme donuts for ‘buns’, a fried egg, bacon, cheese and a hefty beef patty. For real.
Fried Ho-Hos: The North Carolina State Fair is known for debuting a new fried delicacy each year. This year? Fried Ho-Hos. Chocolate cake, vanilla cream, chocolate topping and batter on a stick. Yum?
Fried Pizza: If we can have fried burgers, why not fried pizza? Shape pizza crust into a cone, stuff it with pepperoni, sausage, loads of cheese and sauce. Then dip it batter and fry ‘er up!
Fried Oreos: The batter melds with the chocolate cookie oil to create a donut-y texture, apparently. At 500+ calories per cookie, that’s a lot for a little package.
Fried Avocados: This I’d probably eat — avocado slices covered in corn dog batter and fried. Of course, this originated at a California fair and is served with a side of herbed olive oil. It’s still bad, but at least avocados pack in “good fats”? Does that counter act the fried part?
Fried Pop Tarts: Seriously. With extra spinkles to make it even sweeter.
