Simon Monjack: Brittany Was Not “That Ill”

Upon learning the results of the Los Angeles county coroner’s investigation into his wife’s December 20th death, Simon Monjack told PEOPLE that he was “ridiculously upset.”

“Everything [surprised me and Brittany Murphy's mom about the report],” he said. “I expected the cause of death to be her heart.” Murphy suffered from a heart murmur since she was young.

Regarding reports that her death could have been prevented with proper medical care, Monjack said that she wasn’t “that ill. She wasn’t coughing up. I’ve had pneumonia and coughed up handfuls of spittle. So yeah, everything surprised us, everything.”
