20182 Sully106APU Brace for Impact: Story of US Airways 1549, Captain Sullenberger Airs Tonight On January 15, 2009, the world watched in horror as US Airways Flight 1549 went down in the Hudson River. But the story of Flight 1549 did not end in tragedy, thanks to the amazing skills of pilot Captain Sullenberger.

TLC will air the documentary Brace for Impact about the landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River by Captain Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger, III tonight at 9:00 PM ET/PT.

Harrison Ford narrates Brace for Impact which features interviews with Captain Sullenberger, passengers, air traffic controllers and first responders who assisted the landing. The documentary tells the story of how Captain Sullenberger and his crew saved the lives of the 155 people on board that flight. Sullenberger remains modest about his heroic efforts that day:

I’m honored and gratified by the attention I’ve received as a result of this event. On January 15, we had a remarkably good day, and I’m proud that my crew and I were up to the task. I am sure that this documentary will convey the ongoing power of this story and its ability to touch and inspire people around the world.

The title of this story should be US Airways, why is it United Airways?

The program was very informative and had a happy ending. God put the right piliot in the right plane for that situation! Its a good thing he had glider experience. ONE MISTAKE I NOTED WAS A GRAMMATICAL ERROR THE NARRATOR CALLED THE GEESE CANADA GREESE TWO TIMES IN THE PROGRAM! IN MICHIGAN WE CALL THEM CANADIAN GEESE!

It is common to call more than one Canada Goose Canadian Geese, but the writer is correct, plural geese are called Canada Geese. Canadian would imply they were born in Canada which they may or may not have been.

Great show. Captain Sully was remarkable, but I would like to also see a documentary on the pilot (Alfred Haynes) that landed Flight 232 several years ago in Sioux City Iowa with no hydraulics. Not everyone lived on that flight but the fact that he was able to control the airliner at all was nothing short of a miracle. I saw him speak a few years ago at an airline safety seminar and was so impressed at his knowledge and courage.

I watched “Brace for Impact” last night. Our country needed a Miracle – something to cheer about – Sully & Jeff, thanks a million. No one sued the airlines – now that’s class!! Some are suffering fallout – that’s a given. This was interesting.

One thing I thought I heard or didn’t hear clearly is the Call number of the plane – a couple of times I thought I heard the Control Operator refer to the flight number as 1529. Not sure.

Comparing this flight to SUX (Souix City Code) disaster – there is no comparison. People died and not because the flight crew didn’t try – it was a miracle that many survived this horrific disaster and belongs in the Book of Aviation Miracles.
