Indulge me a short story, if you will:

personal microderm 300x200 Gloss Giveaway: Personal MicrodermShortly before the carnage that was known as my December, I was sent a Personal Microderm kit to review.

Lets live in the reality of the world:  I, like most of you (I’m assuming),  can’t generally afford to splurge on regular medspa appointments to maintain the lie of youth.

Personal Microderm, however, is an at-home microdermabrasion system that you can use anytime, anywhere that can give you similar results to the ones you would get at said med spa.

It’s super easy to use (just please remember to read the directions!), and the microdermal exfoliation tool has the same pro aluminum oxide crystal discs you would probably find at the med spa itself.

Now, to answer your question in your heads – no, it doesn’t hurt – you run it against your face, and it helps to rid you of dead skin cells. After I started to use it for a few weeks, lines smoothed out and my skin looked more even – now my pores are smaller and a chicken pox scar I’ve had since I was 10 seems reduced!
The kit comes with two kinds of aluminum crystal discs (blue for gentle exfoliation, green for stronger resurfacing) and retails for $179 all over the Internet.

GIVEAWAY: I have one of these to give away! To have your chance to win, please share the best at-home remedy you’ve ever discovered. Was it a yogurt facial? Vaseline lip balm? Let us know! Please also feel free to tweet your answer to @alywalansky by March 5. Good luck!

The only thing that ever helped my pimples from adolescence to now is witch hazel. @alywalansky

Apple Cider Vinegar. I know it doesn’t sound right but it gives you an unmatched glow. Whenever it’s the week before aunt flo comes into town, I use it after cleansing my faces, and it prevents the painful breakouts that do happen, you know the ones I am talking about where you wait for the moment to pop it.

Baking Soda mixed with a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide make a paste that has kept my teeth white and bright for years.

I have used cold unused tea bags to bring down the swelling of my pimples. I have used Cortisone to clear up any blemishes. Because my skin is so sensitive, I am not able to use anything such as Clearsil. It makes my blemishes worse and drys my skin out.

Stridex pads and Eucerin out of the jar for dry cracked feet. This works better than anything I’ve ever tried. You rub the stridex pad across the foot, and the acid helps remove the dead skin. Then slather on eucerin, put on some socks and go to bed. When you wake up, your feet will be smooth and soft!

For dry, chapped hands, I mix 1 Tsp Crisco or Olive Oil and 1 Tbsp sugar for a great exfoliating scrub. Just rinse under water, and you will literally have instantly smooth hands. :)

A nice facial scrub of honey & ground almonds followed by a facial mask of honey, yogurt & lemon, add wet chamomile tea bag over your eyes while your hair treatment of egg, mayo & olive oil coverd with a shower cap gets conditioned. Sooo relaxing!

My best at home remedy is apple cider vinegar as shampoo and baking soda as a rinse. I mix a tablespoon of baking soda with a 1/4 cup of warm water in a skirt bottle, and do the same with the apple cider vinegar in another bottle. I have been using this for two years now and my hair is thicker than it has been in years and my scalp is really healthy. In fact, I knew it was working well about a month into using it – as I wasn’t having to remove hair from the drain on a weekly basis any more. It isn’t for every one – but it works for me!

I don’t get them that often anymore but when I do I want them to GO AWAY!
This sounds absolutely fabulous since large pores are my #1 frustration!
