Apparently, I’m not the only one in Emmy mode.

fishplait Gloss How To: Emmy Hair Trend PredictionsIn fact, celebrity circles are aflutter this week as they prepare, and at the top of everyone’s head is the question of how to wear their hair. (That would include me. In a big way.)

We consulted Hollywood celebrity hair stylist Neil Weisberg of Neil George Salon, and he predicted some hot styles sure to be seen on the red carpet next week.

LONG SIDE BRAID or FISH PLAIT

“There are two hot and trendy variations of the side braid on the runway this season, that I could definitely see on the red carpet this year at the Emmy’s. One is a simple loose, voluminous side braid and the other is a side braid using the fishtail method. With the long side braid, make sure that your bangs are parted the opposite side that your braid is formed. With the Fishtail Braid, form the braid on the same side as your side swept bangs.”

1. To create this popular spring and summer runway look, start the FISHTAIL PLAIT with a side parting in the fringe. Apply NEIL GEORGE DRY SHAMPOO at the root for extra volume and hold. Keep the fringe loosely styled, and volume at the crown of the head.
2. Sweep remaining hair to the same side of your side swept bangs. Form a ponytail, keeping your tension firm, but not too tight.
3. Once the ponytail has been separated, hold the two sections in your left hand.
4. Take a thin piece from the outside of the right strand and join it with the left.

Reverse how you are holding the hair and switch hands. Using your left hand, take a small section from the outside of the left and join it with the right.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the braid is as long as you want. Secure it with an elastic and finish the look with a light-weight hairspray NEIL GEORGE PERFECT HOLD HAIRSPRAY.

This beautiful and timeless look has been back on the radar for a couple years now, but there’s a reason why we keep seeing it on the red carpet and runway…it’s gorgeous and works for any glamorous event. Look to Veronica Lake for inspiration. Waves should be defined, and firm, but not curly. You can wear this with a side part, or off center part, and this looks best on hair that falls right below the shoulder. Think old Hollywood. Classic.

1. Begin by using NEIL GEORGE VOLUMIZING SPRAY and blow dry all hair upside down to get as much volume as possible. Section off your fringe with an off center, deep side part.
2. Using a 1 inch curling iron and 2-3 inch subsections in the front, use the iron to do a loose finger wave. Start at the top and hold the section of the hair at the bend of the iron for a couple seconds, and release. Move down the same section and lay the iron on top of the hair, pulling the ends up to create the S shape. Follow down the length of the hair, alternating. Do the same on the other side.
3. Set the rest of the head in rollers and after everything is set, loosely brush everything with a paddle brush. Finish with NEIL GEORGE PERFECT HOLD HAIRSPRAY.

This is a very popular look that is popping up everywhere from the streets of California, to the biggest runway shows of the spring and summer. This is very different from the waves from the 40’s. This look is flowing, textured, natural looking, sometimes on the borderline of bed head. Women can use a center part, or off center part.

1. Using a NEIL GEORGE VOLUMIZING SPRAY at the root, blow dry upside down, focusing on the root area for maximum volume. Smooth a little NEIL GEORGE INDIAN GOOSEBERRY OIL on the midlengths and ends of the hair.
2. Starting at eyebrow level, separate the top section of hair using a horseshoe parting.
3. Taking 2 ½ inch diagonal subsections, start at the mid-lengths of the hair and use a flat iron to curl away from the face. This should be a simultaneous movement of twisting the flat iron away and sliding down to the ends of the hair. Repeat this until you reach the back center of the head.
4. Repeat on the other side.
5. Release the top section of the hair, and repeat step 3 on one side, and step 4 on the other side.
6. Flip your head upside down and shake out the curls and flip back. Loosely style away from your face, scrunching and raking through. The finished look will be very relaxed, yet sexy, chic, yet natural. Finish with NEIL GEORGE PERFECT HOLD HAIRSPRAY for defense against frizz and flyaways.
