Gloss How-To: Make Your Swimsuit Last

The season is finally changing, and the time is coming to lock away those swimsuits.

Born and raised in a bikini, Florida girl and designer of 1 Sol Swimwear, Jenny Pyle knows a thing or two about swimsuits. With summer winding down, preserving your suits so they are fresh for next summer becomes an important consideration.

Post cannonball or swan dive, always remember to rinse in cold water. While it may be tempting to head straight to your lounge chair, resist the urge and head to the showers! Allowing your suit to dry in salt or chlorine has a damaging effect on the elasticity and color of your suit.

Before your suits go into hibernation, hand wash – ensuring they’re prepared for their next poolside debut. If you must toss in the washing machine, be sure to keep them in a mesh garment bag or pillow case. This will protect them from tangling with your other clothing. Remove pads from any tops prior to washing and always lay flat to dry. The dryer will create unwelcome creases you won’t be able to get out.

If it’s too late to save your suits and you’re shopping for something new, Pyle recommends always bringing a small refrigerator magnet. If your mag is attracted to any metal hardware on the bikini, put it back! The hardware will rust and retain heat, causing uncomfortable burns.

Yikes!
