Top 5 Oscars Looks

Every year, the Oscars red carpet becomes fashion‘s hottest runway, with Hollywood A-listers strutting their stuff in designer frocks and exquisite couture, while setting the season’s biggest trends.
While there has been a slew of memorable gems (Uma introduces us to Prada!) as well as flops (Björk’s ode to Swan Lake?), only a few stand out as truly brilliant.
I still remember the moment when I was 13 years old and saw Nicole Kidman glide across the stage in her chartreuse chinoiserie-inspired Galliano. (“It’s striking,” said my mother.) That gown, along with these 4 others are what immediately come to mind when someone says “Best Oscars Fashion”.

Angelina Jolie in Dolce & Gabbana (2001) A rebel as always, Angelina ditched the traditional gown for a tailored suit that somehow oozed sex, rock n’ roll and sophistication. |

Nicole Kidman in Galliano (1997) Chartreuse and bold red lips? No one else could have pulled this off with as much style and panache. |

Sarah Jessica Parker in Calvin Klein (2001) Sarah Jessica Parker broke and rewrote the rules for Oscars fashion with this leg-baring minidress. The short hemline shocked some but was a breath of fresh air amidst the sea of forgettable princess gowns. |

Cate Blanchett in Galliano (1999) This delicately embroidered gown set the bar high for the incredible Cate Blanchett looks that were yet to come. |

Hilary Swank in Guy Laroche (2005) This navy silk jersey gown was draped to her figure perfectly while highlighting Hilary’s flawlessly sculpted back. |
What are your top picks? Are these their best looks?
And are these celebrity’s fashion triumphs more memorable than their fashion failures (like Angelina as Morticia Adams, Hilary’s candy-colored mullet dress…)?
