Avoiding Tragic Makeover Mishaps

Sometimes life upheavals can lead to us doing crazy, crazy, things.
A great book to check out is the The Frisky 30-Day Breakup Guide, by TheFrisky.com’s Jaime Beckman. It’s basically a relationship book — it offers lots of celeb quotes and advice on all things related to relationships.
But one issue that really resonated with me is the concept of “break-up hair“. Whether or not your going through a tough break-up, when faced with the urge to make a break from your long-term hairstyle, there are a few key rules every girl should keep in mind to avoid a tragic makeover mishap.
Because, lets face it, bad hair would just make everything that much worse. Jennifer Johnson, lead stylist for the hit-show Gossip Girl shared four rules every girl should follow when changing her hair:
1. “Try making a small change. If you want a different look, part your hair on the other side; if it’s curly, make it straight; or if you don’t have layers, add layers.”
2 “If you want to cut your hair, cut two inches—tops.”
3 “Changing your hair color is always better than chopping it off. Go a couple of shades lighter or darker, but only one or two shades. Don’t suddenly become a redhead after being a brunette all your life—maybe get red highlights instead.”
4 “Do not do that ‘Oh, I put my hair in a ponytail and pulled it halfway through, but it still looks like a ponytail’ style. That always looks like you don’t really care what you look like, and if you boyfriend just dumped you or you broke up with your boyfriend, you don’t want to look frumpy. You want to feel good about yourself.”
