SAG Awards Beauty: Get Nicole Kidman & Marion Cotillard’s Hairstyles

In addition to the gorgeous gowns that graced the red carpet at Saturday’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, we were loving the makeup and hair styles the women wore — from loose, long waves to chic and effortless up-dos.

To find out how to replicate the styles, we got the scoop from a couple of celebrity hair pros on how to get the looks Nine’s Nicole Kidman and Marion Cotillard rocked  Saturday night.

Nicole Kidman’s SAG Awards Bohemian Hair How-to: Celebrity hairdresser David Babaii said, “Nicole always inspires me but for the 2010 SAG Awards, her beautiful skin tone and breathtaking beauty took the lead. The right style and hair color became my main objective.” David fell in love with a unique period wig that had various tones of ginger. In order to achieve the perfect color match, David enlisted the help of celebrity hair colorist Lorri Goddard-Clark. Lorri created Nicole’s rich new color, while David created the perfect texture needed to enhance this natural but classic “Bohemian” look.

The Color: Lorri Goddard-Clark used a combination of deposit-only color, her signature foil-out reverse highlighting technique and a sulfate-free glaze. Nicole’s hair was transformed from a medium blonde into a rich, warm Gingered Toffee Red to enhance her azure eyes and porcelain skin.

The Style: David gently towel-dried Nicole’s hair and sprayed Bohemian Beach Spray throughout. Next, he rough-dried the hair moving his hands in various directions to create texture. Once dry, he parted her hair in the center and divided Nicole’s red tresses into 4 sections (sides, back crown & nape). Starting at the nape area, he alternated between 1″ and 1 ½” ceramic curling irons, taking “V” shaped partings. He then wrapped hair around the inside of the barrel, holding for 10 seconds then gently releasing the curl. With each alternating curl, David slid his fingers up the curl to gently create a soft back combing effect and enhanced texture. After finishing the entire head, David used his fingers and added extra Bohemian Beach Spray to loosen the curls and highlight the richness of the hair color.

Marion Cotillard’s SAG Awards Side-Swept Hair How-to: Celebrity stylist Robert Vetica aimed for a romantic, somewhat retro hair look to accent the dramatic short white dress Marion Cotillard wore.

The look was a creative mix of ultra-smooth, shiny texture with a deconstructed, somewhat messy bun. Rich, silky shine and smooth texture was essential to the success of the look, explained Vetica.

“I started by applying Moroccanoil® Treatment on wet hair to give the maximum shine possible and an easy blow-dry. Next, I applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Cream, for definition and soft hold, and created a low side part.

Then, I pin-curled the sides toward the direction the face, and then pin-curled another section in the back to give hair added movement.

Once the hair was dry, I brushed it out, took the full length of hair and made a ponytail. Next, I wrapped a million dollar emerald and diamond bracelet from Chopard around the base of the ponytail, and pinned it strategically into a messy bun.

I finished the look with a light misting of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to give hair a luminous finish that would last throughout the evening.”
