Music to Motivate Your Workout

I am forever on the quest for the perfect music playlist. My poor little iPod Shuffle has the songs changed on it so often, it’s a wonder it doesn’t quit working in protest. Songs with that perfect beat can really get you moving and can even motivate you to workout longer than you might have otherwise. I know I’ve been known to extend my walks just because I didn’t want to quit until I heard a certain song.
Science backs up was active people already knew; music can really enhance a workout. If you’re looking to jazz up your playlist, try out these favorites from some of the MyGloss team:
-Lolita Carrico. “I either go old school Madonna (like Borderline or Holiday) or my newest favorite are the Glee soundtracks. Mainly because both are fun, upbeat and not too serious. And, since I work out first thing in the morning (usually), it puts me in a good mood (usually) for the day.”
- Jennifer Latkiewicz. “I Got a Feeling by The Blackeyed Peas, Hey Ya by Outkast and Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. I’m not what you would describe as a fitness ‘enthusiast.’ That said, I need music that’s ridiculously upbeat so I can convince myself that this hour on the treadmill is not torture but in fact a really, really, really fun dance party.”
- Maggie Vink. “It’s all about the beat! I hate the name, but Steroids by Mr. Oizo is a new favorite that really gets me moving. When I’m walking, Jessica by Maybe August is by far my go-to song — it’s funny and upbeat and puts a little extra oomph in my step.”
- Jeannine Morris. “My top three of the moment by far are Day N’ Night by Kid Cudi, Don’t Stop the Music by Rhianna and Dynamite by Taio Cruz. I love working out to music I can dance to. I just picture myself shaking it on the dance floor as I run and it keeps me going. Sometimes, if I’m on the bike, I catch myself actually dancing and have to calm down.”
