Check Your Attitude for Weight Loss Success
To lose weight, you have to eat healthfully and be active — burning more calories than you consume. That’s a given. But there’s another side to weight loss that doesn’t get mentioned as often. Your mindset. Weight loss isn’t easy — if it was, there wouldn’t be a whole industry built around diet plans and weight loss products. A positive attitude and an honest outlook on your health habits will help you lost weight.
With a good attitude, diet and exercise you can think yourself thin:
- Realistic goals. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment by promising to lose 25 pounds in a month or to get back into your high school jeans in two weeks. Set short-term, realistic milestones that will help you meet your long-term goal.
- Past tense and positive. Words have meaning. Don’t berate yourself for bad habits. Instead, be positive and put those former bad habits into the past tense. “I used to use food to soothe my moods” and “I used to be a chocoholic” can be replaced with present tense good habits such as “I choose fruit for my afternoon snack.”
- Don’t be negative. So you’ve tried to lose weight before and didn’t succeed or didn’t maintain the loss. That’s okay. Past efforts don’t predict your current chance of success.
- Don’t give up. If you slip a bit and let go of your new healthy habits, don’t fret. Just get right back on track.
A beautiful smile goes a long way. That may be why the Americans spend about 1.4 billion dollars per year on teeth whitening products. In a survey conducted by the American Academy of Dermatology, 74% of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt their chances for career success. In this economy, you don’t have to break the bank to keep you job. Skip expensive professional whitening treatments and keep up with your smile daily with Colgate MaxWhite.
Did you watch the Emmys last night? I watched a bit of the red carpet arrival, but then I switched over to a documentary about dinosaurs. I guess my celebrity interest is fleeting at best. But first thing this morning, I was checking out the best dressed lists — I just love to see all the gorgeous gowns and, I’ll admit it, I get a chuckle out of the fashion flops as well. I may never wear a Versace, but the celebrity photos do inspire me to get fit. Here are my picks for the Emmys’ most fit.
Is your kitchen overflowing with tomatoes right now? It always seems like a good idea to put a tomato plant or two into my garden. Then, by this time of year I have more tomatoes than I know what to do with. To make it worse, my son cut the neighbor’s lawn and came home with none other than a bag of tomatoes. Luckily there are many ways to enjoy this late summer bounty and — bonus — tomatoes are great for health.
Isn’t is awesome when something that tastes great is also good for you? Researchers have long recognized
In New York City pregnant women all seem to be in such good shape. I’ve noticed they don’t seem to change much about their lifestyles and continue to work out and do yoga. I could only hope that one day if I decide to have a baby, I’ll be the same way.
I come from a speedskating family. My uncle won Olympic gold for speedskating quite a few years ago, so you could say that a love for the sport runs in my blood. Just take a look at any seasoned speedskater — their legs are absolute powerhouses. But even if you can’t stand on skates (not to mention the ice) you can reap some of speedskating’s benefits. The
Labor Day weekend is right around the corner and I’m sure you’re trying to squeeze in as many last minute summer bar-b-ques as you can before it’s time to embrace the fall weather. Try adding healthy kebab’s to the grill. They’re quick and easy to make, plus they allow you to save some calories for desert or a frozen margarita.
