Exercise won’t make you thin. It can even make you gain weight!
Huh?
According to Time’s lastest issue, you might just be wasting your time on the treadmill. The article says exercise doesn’t help us lose weight and can even make it harder to lose weight:
“The basic problem is that while it’s true that exercise burns calories and that you must burn calories to lose weight, exercise has another effect: it can stimulate hunger. That causes us to eat more, which in turn can negate the weight-loss benefits we just accrued. Exercise, in other words, isn’t necessarily helping us lose weight. ”
The article has caused an uproar with health and fitness experts, who say the magazine is wrong. Way wrong. These experts point to research that shows exercise and dieting are both important for weight loss AND that exercise is critical for weight maintenance.
Does exercise work? Should I quit working out and start eating jelly donuts? What do you think?
