The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled more than thirty products — primarily soup and dip mixes — because of salmonella contamination. An additive -hydrolyzed vegetable protein — is said to be the source of the contamination and is used in thousands of foods. So far, there haven’t been any reported illnesses and it currently presents a low risk to consumers, according to FDA officials, however some batches of the ingredient tested positive.
U.S. products included in the recall are Tim’s Cascade Snacks, prepackaged foods made by Earth Island, tortilla soup mix made by Homemade Gourmet and chicken soup base made by Castella Imports.
