Moderate coffee drinkers might be doing their hearts some good, a new study shows. In research presented at the American Heart Association conferences, data collected from over 130,000 patients found that those that drink coffee are less likely to be hospitalized for heart troubles and coffee also may reduce diabetes risk in women.
“It might be a surprise, because coffee does give some people the jitters,” study author Artur Klatsky said. “And I don’t think we’re ready to tell people they should drink coffee to prevent heart rhythm problems.”
Klatsky says more research needs to be done, but bottom line: “Coffee drinkers don’t have to quit because they have heart rhythm problems. That’s about as far as we can go.”
