From tasty recipes to images of great restaurant meals, the act of salivating over images of cravable edibles known as “food porn” has become a worldwide phenomenon.
Sarah Gim runs a mesmerizing website called Tastespotting that features gorgeous images of food with insight into the inspiration behind the dish and links to the recipes. Yesterday, I found a link to a Mommy Milk Cheese recipe on Gim’s twitter feed (@the delicious) — which she prefaced with, “breast milk cheese. too far? wait, what am i saying? YES TOO FAR. geez.” — which then led me to an elaborate story Chef Daniel Angerer’s blog with images of bagged breast milk and how make cheese with it.
Don’t get me wrong, I think breast-feeding is a beautiful thing. If baby gets more natural nutrients from a mom who can breast-feed, I am all for it. When dad decides to use some pumped breast milk to make cheese, well that’s a different story. Who is eating this cheese? If it is for his own snack, well then maybe that’s just a resourceful way of using up some of of the stored breast milk. But please don’t serve it to me at a cocktail party. I am a fairly adventuresome eater, but I have to draw the line somewhere.
See it for yourself on Chef Daniel Angerer’s Blog.

I think it is sad that anyone thinks human milk is disgusting, but the milk of cows and goats is just fine to use to make cheese and an assortment of other foods. That being said, for anyone who has a child with severe allergies to cow’s milk and soy, this is a great way to provide an alternative that is hypoallergenic and actually good for the child! Shame on you for being closed-minded!
Why is it that people find that drinking milk from another species (which by the way was meant for it’s baby) is “normal” or Ok, but human milk is wrong, gross or going too far??
Just doesn’t make sense to me!!
Ditto the above comments.
