iPad: 2 Million iPads Sold In 60 Days

ipad iPad: 2 Million iPads Sold In 60 DaysApple has sold 2 million iPads in just 60 days!   The fact that Apple has hit the 2 million mark is amazing, even by Steve Jobs standards.  According to PC Magazine:

Apple began selling the iPad in the United States on April 3 of this year. By May 3–just 28 days after the device’s release–the company was already touting that it had reached its one millionth sale. As we reported back then, it took the company’s first iPhone a (seemingly) whopping 74 days to reach that plateau.

So the Apple iPad is a hit but is it practical for families? It depends on who you ask.  The iPad has gotten rave reviews from the tech crowd but what about families?

Geeky Dad Whit Honea thinks that the iPad could come in handy for families:

Kids love electronics and games and for them the iPad is just a bigger version of something they already love (iPhone/iPod Touch). They don’t care about the lack of telephone, but they will love seeing their favorite apps on a bigger screen. We’re talking hours of fun and relative quiet (think restaurant waits and things to do on a plane).

Practical Mom Sona Charaipotra covets an iPad but isn’t ready to drop $500 on it:

The multi-functionality really works for new moms in that it can eliminate some of the bulk you’d have to lug around if you had your lap-top, your planner, your e-reader and all that other modern day crap we have to deal with. An all-in-one mom tool, in a way. Which means I’m still coveting it, although I’m not quite ready to drop the $500-plus on it just yet.

According to Mashable, the iPad is on a course to surpass even the most optimistic sales forecasts. What do you think of the iPad? Do you have one?  Do you WANT an iPad?

Gloss Find: Vita-Mix 5200

I don’t even like calling this a blender, because the Vita-Mix 5200 is SO MUCH MORE than a blender. This is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets because it saves me space by doing the job of more than five appliances.

Tablet Wars: Dell Streak to Debut This Summer

DellStreak 300x187 Tablet Wars: Dell Streak to Debut This SummerThe debut…and success…of Apple’s iPad has opened up the floodgates for more tablets to hit the market. The iPad competitor getting the biggest buzz right now? Dell’s Streak which was announced today.

Launching in the UK in June and in the U.S. later this summer, the Streak will run on Google’s Android operating system and unlike the iPad, supports Flash.

The mini-tablet is smaller than an iPad — with a 5-inch screen that’s nearly half the size of Apple’s tablet. The Streak can be used as a phone using an earpiece or Bluetooth headset which is a nice bonus, but we can’t help but think this won’t really be a player in the tablet space. It’s too small to become an on-the-go laptop replacement and too big to replace a mobile phone.

What do you think? Does the 5-inch mini-tablet stand to be a formidable iPad competitor?

Pac-Man Turns 30: Google “Doodles”, Americans Procrastinate

googlepacman 300x151 Pac Man Turns 30: Google Doodles, Americans ProcrastinateWe can all thank Google for any of yesterday’s precipitous drops of productivity in the workplace.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man, Google paid tribute with its first ever interactive “doodle” – a fun (albeit, totally distracting) Pac-Man game that web users can play straight from the Google homepage.

Click the “Insert Coin” button (a double click launches a two-player game with Ms. Pac-Man) and roam the maze. Ghosts, run. Dots, eat. Considered a classic in the medium, Pac-Man is on display at the Smithsonian, and credited as the game that attracted the “elusive” female gamer of the early arcade era. Even at 30 years old, everyone’s favorite yellow, ghost-evading sphere seems just as popular as he ever was and his game, still just as addicting.

Web users can still perform a search through the home page, but why would you? Launched on Friday to celebrate the May 22 anniversary, web users only have until Sunday at 8 a.m. Pacific time, to re-live nostalgia and enjoy the yellow fruit-chomping distraction. Then it’s back to trying to get some actual work done.
