Gloss Find: Juice Pack Air Rechargeable Case by Mophie

Car trouble, an important call, a work email that needed to be sent out an hour ago – doesn’t it seem like your phone battery always dies at the most inopportune moment? For a little extra peace of mind, there’s the Juice Pack Air by Mophie, an ultra-thin rechargeable case designed to add that much-needed battery life to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. (Our iPhone 3GS went from practically dead to 70% charged once we added the Juice Pack Air!)

How it works: a rechargeable battery is concealed inside of a lightweight, protective shell that fits over your device just as a standard case would. A USB cable is included so users can easily charge the case and sync a device with iTunes without removing it from the Juice Pack Air.  Smart Battery Technology ensures your device always drains the case’s battery first and an LED meter on the back tells you just how much juice is left.

Mophie touts the Juice Pack Air as “the world’s thinnest rechargeable battery case” and if you’re the type who throws your phone in a handbag every day, you’ll barely notice a difference. (Guys who keep their phones in their pockets may notice some added bulk, though.)

Note: Unfortunately, our Juice Pack Air gave us weird errors about the disk being unavailable when we tried to sync our iPhone but considering that the specs explicitly state that removing the case is unnecessary, it may have been a fluke. (The Mophie rep didn’t respond to our inquiry about the errors.) But because I don’t update my iTunes library regularly,  I wasn’t terribly inconvenienced and for me, the insane battery boost is worth the extra trouble of removing the case.

As God as my witness, I’ll never be without a working phone again.
