Viper SmartStart: Unlock and Start Your Car With Your iPhone

Wow–here’s yet another reason to get an iPhone: Viper launched the Viper SmartStart app today. What is it? The app is essentially a virtual key fob that lets car owners with a Viper system start, lock, unlock, open the trunk, or activate the panic alert on their vehicles — all from a phone.

Using a cellular network, SmartStart extends the range of most key fobs, which max out at around 100 feet, to unlimited distances. If you have SmartStart installed in multiple cars, your iPhone can control any car in the house.
