Apple iPhone Round-Up and the Cool New OS 4
Posted on June 29, 2010 by Jennifer Latkiewicz
Were you one of the 1.7 million people who have picked up the new Apple iPhone 4 (despite the pre-order fiasco) since its release last Thursday?
Hopefully, your phone isn’t plagued with any of the reported glitches like yellow spots, camera issues or weak reception/dropped calls when the phone is held a certain way. Apple acknowledged the reception issue in a statement sent to PC Magazine but suggest that users “avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.”

There’s currently a petition that demands Apple either fix the design flaw or give customers free iPhone bumpers but it looks like a real solution for the reception issues could arrive as early as this week, with the release of iOS.4.1 software fix.
As of last week, you can download iOS 4 for free at Apple.com – it won’t have the rumored reception fix but still packs tons over 100 cool features for the iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G models including:
-Multi-tasking functions that lets you switch from 3rd party apps seamlessly and easily
-Folders for organizing up to 2160 apps
-a cool ebook reader
-Tap to Focus camera function and 5x digital zoom
-One inbox to rule them all: no more switching back and forth between email addresses
-Cellular on/off so you can use your phone on an airplane worry-free
-Bluetooth keyboard support that lets you pair up your iPhone with a keyboard for easy typing
Another cool iPhone announcement: Google also just released a mobile Google Docs viewer for the iPhone and iPad that opens PDFs, .ppt, .doc and .docx attachments that you’ve uploaded to your Google documents list without having to actually download the file. You can check it out by visiting docs.google.com on your iPhone or iPad and selecting the file from your upload list.
Still on the fence about the iPhone 4?? I myself am waiting for the new Motorola Droid X but check out this in-depth review to see what the folks at CNET think.
