In reality, that means I’m in Napa – a land of everything I hold dear – but also, I am in paradise of another form – not having to WORRY ALL THE TIME.

I was recently given a media subscription to Carbonite, an online backup service. You may think the name sounds familiar – named for a fictional substance, the goal is that the files you hold dear will be just as impenetrable.

I was lucky enough to have it for free (as will two of you, read on!) – but the price is awesomely user-friendly, and with it you get unlimited storage! YES, UNLIMITED.

 Carbonite doesn’t only provide unlimited amount of data backup, but it also provides instant access to documents, photos and music for users through any Internet connection, including via its iPhone, Android and BlackBerry mobile apps. (There also is an iPad application available.)

This could be an invaluable resource for students as they hit campus this fall. For that college freshman who spends an entire semester on a paper only to have their laptop crash at 10 p.m. the night before it’s due — it can happen, I saw it on my Felicity DVD on the plane out here! — Carbonite could be a lifesaver. Its remote access capability also can come in handy for quickly pulling up favorite summer vacation photos or music while on the go, and the unlimited service costs $59/year per computer – which is a STEAL.
