image001 Gloss Find: The FruitGuys TakeHomeEven though I extol the virtues of farmers markets every time I have the opportunity, there are mornings when I just can’t get there. I don’t want to get up yet or I guilt-trip myself into choosing spinning class instead.

Depending on where you live, the quality of your supermarket produce may or may not be up to par. Enter, The FruitGuys, the industry leader in providing fresh fruit to the American workplace.

The Fruit Guys, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, have been delivering fresh fruit to workplaces for over ten years but just recently, announced the launch of their new TakeHome product. The TakeHome brings fresh regional, organic produce directly to employees at work for use at home (psst: if you work from home, they’ll still come directly to your door!).

Available in three different varieties: fruit & veggie, fruit only and veggie only, the TakeHome is designed for those who do not have access to a Farmer’s Market, or are simply to busy to shop for fresh produce.  I sampled their ‘fruit only case,’ which included more beautiful plums than I could ever eat. So I baked. The fruit arrived fresh and unblemished and it kept pretty well; if you think your family won’t be finish a whole case, you can choose your size and determine how much produce you receive.

In addition to providing people with local and fresh produce, they’ve recently launched efforts that align with their ideals about health, the environment, and communities. The FruitGuys launched a Farm Steward Program in April 2008 to support sustainable small family farming. They donate 88,000 pounds of fresh fruit a year (more than 7,000 pounds a month) to non-profit groups and regional food pantries nationwide.
