I got it for my three. They are preemies and their lungs are still not up to snuff. Our doc was initially on the fence, but leaned towards recommending it when it started to run rampant this fall. Unfortunately my three picked it up 2 weeks before the vaccines were available, but Tamiflu was very helpful. It was a bit scarey for me to have three kids sick with the flu and have three young people die from it in our area at the same time. None of them had underlying conditions. One 16, one in 20's and one mid 40's. I was initially hesitant to vaccinate, but that did it for me. BTW regarding the Obama kids comment, the whole family got the vaccination, quite some time ago. Probably a mix of precaution and PR!

We just received a school notice advising they are expecting a shipment of the H1N1 vaccine and will have a flu shot clinic next week. If we want to vaccinate our child, they require our consent. As this is my stepdaughter, and though we currently have custody, I felt it should be decided by her mother and my husband.

Her mother said that as long as my stepdaughter is healthy, her immune system should be able to handle the flu, and she will naturally build up an immunity to other strains down the road.

My husband is torn, but has decided not to based upon the following:
1)The frenzy to force an untested vaccine on us makes him nervous
2)All the research he has seen says that that the overall flu symptoms are no worse than an ordinary flu AND that the chances of dying are no greater
3)All the standard precautions are still the best prevention (avoiding sneezing and coughing people, washing hands frequently, etc) and
4)If she gets sick, then she stays home, regardless of the flu type.

Me - I would not do it either, so I was happy that we were all able to agree.

I'm allowing my oldest son to get it. (He's in school and has had breathing problems in the past.) I'm skipping it for my youngest kid though.

I am still on the fence. I just wrote a blog that contains a variety of great h1n1 resources (www.iamenabled.com/blog) and yet I can't decide on this one. There's a clinic in our area on Saturday, and our pediatrician recommends for my kids, who have asthma, but on the other hand, my kids react to vaccines. I wish I knew exactly what I wanted to do, this indecision is really weighing me down.

We'll get it if the opportunity presents. I'm pretty sure we all already HAD h1n1 which is the only reason I am not going out of my way to make it happen.

Nope. Not getting it here. It's being offered by my sons' school next week and they will be ABSENT on that day (can't take any risks.) I know it's not the popular thing to do, but we have HISTORY with vaccines. I hate them.

Since my middle son is being treated for ulcerative colitis and emergent type 1 diabetes, you bet he's going to get it. The medications and conditions he has place him at deep risk for H1N1 complications, and he's a college student. My daughter is in high school and equally at risk. This flu causes complications in young people that, at best, can damage their lungs for life and at worst, can kill them. We are just emerging from a summer from hell where our son lost 30 lbs before we finally discovered the causes. I'm not going to place him at further risk. No way.
