9-Year-Old Nearly Suspended for Tiny LEGO “Weapon”

legogun 9 Year Old Nearly Suspended for Tiny LEGO Weapon A 4th grader in Staten Island, N.Y. was nearly suspended after he brought a 2-inch LEGO policeman carrying a gun to school. 9-year old Patrick Timoney was playing with his LEGOs during lunch when the school principal brought him to the office and threatened suspension.

New York’s Department of Education policy states that there can be no imitation guns on school property, so the toy was confiscated and Patrick’s parents were called in for a conference.

The boys parents were extremely upset, and mom Laura may sue over what she called “a lack of common sense.”

Patrick Timoney Sr., the boy’s father and a retired police officer, was also perplexed by the action, telling WNBC that he’s dealt with people who use imitation weapons as a way to threaten others and commit crimes, but that clearly wasn’t the case with this minuscule toy.

What do you think?

I absolutely hate these zero tolerance policies. I understand it makes things easier for administrators of schools and such, but they do not realize how many innocent lives they will ruin because they can’t take the extra time to investigate and be subjective. Zero tolerance only teaches intolerance, and that is not a good thing to exhibit.

I mean seriously, this kid had no intentions of threatening people with a lego gun. There is no ability that he could even use it as a weapon. I am glad he didn’t get suspended but to be put in the spot that he might have would be ridiculous. The kid was just playing by himself with legos, being a good kid, so people should just let him go.
