A 4th grader in Staten Island, N.Y. was nearly suspended after he brought a 2-inch LEGO policeman carrying a gun to school. 9-year old Patrick Timoney was playing with his LEGOs during lunch when the school principal brought him to the office and threatened suspension.
New York’s Department of Education policy states that there can be no imitation guns on school property, so the toy was confiscated and Patrick’s parents were called in for a conference.
The boys parents were extremely upset, and mom Laura may sue over what she called “a lack of common sense.”
Patrick Timoney Sr., the boy’s father and a retired police officer, was also perplexed by the action, telling WNBC that he’s dealt with people who use imitation weapons as a way to threaten others and commit crimes, but that clearly wasn’t the case with this minuscule toy.
What do you think?
