Singer Marie Osmond‘s son Michael Blosil committed suicide last night in Los Angeles. The 18-year old jumped from his downtown apartment building window to his death after years of battling depression. Entertainment Tonight reports that Michael left behind a note, relaying his intention to commit suicide after his life battle with severe depression that “left him feeling as if he had no friends and could never fit in.”
In a statement this morning, Marie said, “My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
In 2007, Michael entered rehab for undisclosed reasons. At the time, Marie supported her son, saying, “My son Michael is an amazing young man shown through his courage in facing his issues. As his mother I couldn’t be more proud of him.”
Osmond and Michael’s father, Brian Blosil, announced in 2007 that they were divorcing after over 20 years of marriage. Osmond and Blosil had two biological children together and adopted five children, including Michael.
Reached by Entertainment Tonight via phone, Michael’s uncle Donny Osmond asked them to “Please pray for my sister and her family.” Donny and Marie Osmond’s Las Vegas show has been canceled until further notice.
