teengirls 300x225 1 in 4 Teen Girls Admit To Violent BehaviorA new survey of U.S. teen girls ages 12 to 17 found that 27% have been involved in serious fights or attacks on other girls within the previous year.

Based on responses from over 30,000 girls participating in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the survey indicated that 19% of girls got into a serious fight at school or work; 14% were part of fights involving groups and almost 6% attacked others with an intention to seriously hurt them.

“These findings are alarming,” Pamela S. Hyde of SAMHSA said. “We need to do a better job reaching girls at risk and teaching them how to resolve problems without resorting to violence.”
