Giada 242x300 Food Network New York City Wine Festival: Tickets On Sale TodayIf you need something to make your Monday a little more meaningful, then you’ve come to the right place. Today, tickets go on sale for the third annual Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival presented by Food & Wine and Travel + Leisure.

On October 7-10, 2010, the Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength will help New Yorkers and visitors turn up the heat in the Big Apple.

Since it began as a one-night event in the fall of 2007, the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival has grown to a series of over 120 events held throughout NYC’s Meatpacking District and beyond. From extravagant tasting parties to educational demonstrations and culinary lectures, some of the industry’s biggest names (Giada De Laurentiis! Masaharu Morimoto! Martha Stewart!) even turn out to enjoy these interactive cooking experiences. The Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival is the only festival in New York to unite culinary idols from around the world with America’s most beloved television chefs. Like it’s sister event, the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival, 100 percent of the net proceeds directly benefit hunger relief organizations Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength.

I’ll be at BlogHer Food ’10 that weekend but if I were going to be in New York and cost was no object, here are just a few of the events I’d try to take in:
Meatball Madness: Watch Italianista Giada De Laurentiis host an unparalleled line-up of all-star chefs from kitchens throughout New York including i Trulli, Carmine’s, Accademia di Vino and The Meatball Shop. They will open the festival on Thursday, October 7 with style, substance and of course, Italian wines to complement the food. $200pp, 7-10pm October 7.

Milk & Cookies with Martha Stewart: Wouldn’t you want to chow down on cookies up close and personal with the domestic diva herself? It’s a family event, kid-friendly and a great excuse to slip inside the revered The New York Times building. Visit numerous different cookie stations from Sullivan Street Bakery, Jacques Torres Chocolate and Gramercy Tavern to sample dozens of delicious flat-baked treats. It’s a low-key event perfect for a food festival first-timer and it won’t put too much strain on your wallet. $40pp, 10am-12mp, October, 8.

Meatpacking, Uncorked: Stroll the streets of the city’s meatpacking district sipping some of Manhattan’s finest wines and enjoying food sampling alongside lively street performances. Some of the neighborhood’s best restaurants, including STK and 10 Downing Food & Wine, will be serving samples of their signature snacks. Toasting, tasting and shopping – what could be better than that? $65pp, 6-9pm, October, 8.

Panel Discussion, Get Real, Go Local, Demand Organic: When I read Nina Planck’s Eat Real I knew that I needed to learn more about the organic, real, and local movement. Let  the author and CEO of Rodale Inc. Maria Rodale; author Nina Planck, and chef, restaurant owner and author Michel Nischan give you the scoop on everything you need to know before you plan your next visit to the grocery store. $20, 3-4pm, October 9.
