In the summer it can be hard to stay hydrated when you start to sweat the second you hit the outdoors. Everyone knows that consuming plenty of water is the key to preventing dehydration, especially if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors or exercising in the heat.
According to experts at the University of Maryland, consuming too little water or fluids can cause dehydration which leads to heat stroke. We’ve already talked about the importance of staying hydrated in the summertime but if you’re tired of plain old H2O, there are quite a few options out there for you that have plenty of refreshing, fruity flavor without added sugar and calories.
Hint Water: If plain water just doesn’t do it for you, Hint is simple: pure water, nature’s purest refreshment, with a hint of natural flavor. Hint Water has no sugar or artificial sweeteners, so it won’t leave you with a nasty aftertaste. Hint is a refreshing alternative to sugar-and corn syrup- packed sodas, juice and other sweetened drinks. A few flavors perfect for beating the heat include watermelon, blackberry and cucumber. MetroMint: The latest flavor of the cool, natural, fruit-infused beverage is Goodberrymint, an all-natural, refreshing combination of 100% real mint and mixed berries combined with purified water. Goodberrymint features a rich blend of berries including acai, blueberries, blackberries, pomegranates and raspberries. You can even feel good about drinking it: not only is mint known to provide a revitalizing affect and aid digestion, 10% of proceeds will benefit the San Francisco Food Bank, with a different organization featured each year.
Vitamin Water Zero: From the makers of H20 powerhouse smartwater come Vitamin Water and its sister beverage, Vitamin Water Zero. They’re all-natural and Vitamin Water Zero is lightly sweetened with zero calories. I can barely make it through a workout without one to sip on.
VitaCoco: I’ve professed my love for coconut water before because it’s perfect for a hot summer day. Coconut water helps restore lost electrolytes and contains high levels of lauric acid, which helps the body fight disease and boosts the immune system. What’s even better, they’re lower in calories than a pina colada and will give you the same relaxed, refreshing feeling.
