Super Size My Coffee? Starbucks To Introduce Trenta Size

email

starbucksfrappucino 277x300 Super Size My Coffee? Starbucks To Introduce Trenta SizeNeed more than a 24-ounce Venti coffee at Starbucks to get you going? If testing goes well in select markets, your local Starbucks could soon be offering a fourth beverage size — the Trenta –to coffee (and tea) lovers. While more java might be exactly what you need to wake up some mornings, the reality is that the new 32-ounce size could pack more calories than necessary.

Right now, a 16-ounce Grande beverage could run up to 420 calories…doubling the drink would end up in a caloric intake equal to one-and-a-half McDonald’s Big Macs! As DietsinReview.com points out, even an Iced Latte in the new size would come close to 300 calories.

What do you think? Do we need super-sizing at Starbucks?

Update: Starbucks sent us an official statement about the new size:

While we have introduced the Trenta size (31 oz.) in certain markets, it is simply a new item we are testing in response to our customers asks for larger iced tea and coffee. Trenta is only available for iced teas and iced coffees. Unsweetened the beverages are less than 5 calories, but even a sweetened iced coffee or tea in a Trenta cup would be less than 200 calories.

Yes! I love the black iced tea. Venti just isn’t enough for me. Would never order a latte in that size though…way too much.

The picture with this story doesn’t really fit since the picture is a Frappuccino and the “Trenta” size cup is only for Iced Tea or Iced Coffee. This is not the first time that Starbucks has tested an extra large size. I think it is bad for the brand image, associating it too closely with ‘super big gulp’ and ‘super size me’. Though personally, I could probably drink a Trenta iced tea! LOL StarbucksMelody.com

As a regular Venti Non-fat, No Whip, 5 shot white chocolate mocha consumer, this does not appeal to me.

While it would make sense for those who drink tea or even a simple coffee drink, to have a larger size offered, it DOES NOT make sense for those who are looking for the boost that I typically seek in my Starbuck’s cup. I ask for 5 shots…asking for the same in a TRENDY Trenti, would result in more “filler”, not more ESPRESSO. So, while the amount of espresso remains the same, the amount of syrups and milk go up.

    Just my 2 cents!

picture wrong much? Its for there iced drinks (Coffee and tea). It isn’t too bad for you. five calories for un-sweetend for both and under 200 calories for both to be sweet.

I don’t mind the larger iced tea. Being from Texas means you wanta giant sized iced tea.

Holy Moly! A thirsty-two ouncer of frappachino? That is a lot of sugar, etc! But I really agree with Stephanie, 32 oz of ice tea, yum!
