image002 300x234 Gloss Cookbook Shelf: Street Food of IndiaIf you’re looking for the kind of book that will take you away without having to leave your kitchen, I’ve found one for you.

Street Food of India: The 50 Greatest Indian Snacks from award-winning photographer and Indian food enthusiast Sephi Bergerson hits shelves today.

In case you’re not a recipe enthusiast, the book is part photo journal, part cookbook and offers the what I think is an authentic taste of India through its snacks, served up with stunning photography.

Now, I’ve never actually been to India but I have eaten Indian food and I will say that Bergerson’s photos are stunning and her recipes sound just as good as the fare from any Indian restaurant where I’ve dined.

I also learned a thing or two from this book: as natives and visitors have apparently long known, one of the best ways to find a delicious meal in India – from the crowded streets of Delhi to the quiet, remote countryside – is on foot.

Not unlike the food truck phenomenon sweeping our own country, roadside snacks prepared before the customer with the freshest ingredients are all the rage in India.
