The Oscars are this Sunday and if you haven’t made plans yet, we got the scoop on throwing a fabulous, Hollywood bash from the Hollywood party planner, Jes Gordon — author of Party Like a Rock Star: A Celebrity Party Planner’s Tips and Tricks for Throwing an Unforgettable Bash:
INVITE: Movie ticket invites and red carpet at your house, but instead of photos of your glammed up friends, ask them to come in pajamas instead! A slumber party-like Oscar bash is much more fun!
EAT: Gourmet popcorn bar along with a candy bar, of course. Serve gourmet TV dinners served in retro-cool cafeteria-style compartment plates (found at IKEA).
DRINK: Cocktails made with your favorite soda pops: vanilla vodka with diet coke, rum and coke, Seagrams and 7-Up, etc.
PLAY: Over the bald naked gold dude? Create the “New Oscar” contest where teams design a new Oscar statuette. Offer DVDs of this year’s nominees or past winners as prizes.
Or….
INVITE: Do as the Hollywood starlets do and just hit the AFTER PARTY! Invite your A-list buddies for an awesome dance and cocktail party post-Oscars just like the real celebs do.
EAT: Mini burgers or pizzas and luxe chocolates are a Hollywood Oscar party staple.
DRINK: Keep the champagne flowing but do it on a budget – Prosecco is far more affordable and your friends won’t notice a difference!
PLAY: Place disposable cameras (with flash) on every table and ask friends to click away paparazzi style.

Lighting is key since the visual magnificence of this movie was everything! Send out a small Pandora’s Box with an invite inside for all of your guests. Include a mini telescope inside or even kaleidoscope would be cool too! The room should be moody and dark with lots of cool lighting effects. You can buy water effects at retailers like Guitar Center and change out your light bulbs with blue ones or LED lights that will slowly change color all evening. Use eco-friendly dishes like bamboo plates and flatware. Drop some cool light-up LED faux ice cubes in colorful drinks like a variety of tropical drinks with different fruit bases, such as mango, blueberry, raspberry etc so your drinks are made of up different colors.
Pandora Punch
1 1/2 oz. Blue Curacao
1 oz. Tequila
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
Garnish with an edible flower.

Boarding Pass invites, the Mile High Club cocktails or trays of mini bottles and fun snacks (individually bagged peanuts, cookies or gourmet popcorn and travel-sized candy bars) and dinners served in little covered plates. Collect hotel room electronic keys and use them as place cards. Offer travel neck pillows for your guests to view the show comfortably and as parting gifts, give out nice eye masks. Deck out your bathrooms with fun travel sized items. Make a note of not talking about jobs or work at this party! ha!
Mile High Club Cocktails
Prosecco
1 shot pineapple juice
1 shot dark rum
Inglorious Basterds (Not suitable for kiddies!)
This one could get rowdy – great for the guys who dread being dragged along to the usual Oscar shindig. Make invites to look like old, beaten up scrolls of paper, written in German, of course, with translation underneath! Serve some good ol’ Jagermeister, but try putting it into mini water guns for all your guests you do the math! ha! For food: mini knockwurst or mini soft pretzels with hot (Brad) mustard ha! Decor should be real simple; try using khaki-colored linen with a dramatic red runner going down the middle. Everything should be buffet style including kegs of beer and lots of down home carby, dude-friendly snacks! For activities and commercial breaks, roll in a spare TV for rounds of a shoot ‘em up game on the xbox or Nintendo and let the Tarantino dialogue fly!
Basterd Brew
1/2 champagne or Prosecco
1/2 Guinness beer
