Paired with a plate of sweet beignets, cafe au lait made with coffee and chicory is a New Orleans tradition that never goes out of style. The chicory softens the bitter edge of dark roast coffee. To bring the taste of Lousiana home, a 15-ounce can is available on the Cafe Du Monde website for $5.45. If you really want to add some home-baked doughnuts with powdered sugar, they sell beignet mix ($2.68) too.
